Vase with Coral Inlay
coral, fossilized skeletons of marine life. It was as an amulet because it was thought to strengthen and protect the emotional foundation of the individual, to protect one against the stare of the Evil Eye and protect one from sterility. When worn on the body, it was believed that it captured and destroyed sorcery before it reached the bearer. Christians carried corral rosary beads. Coral was set in a ring worn on the ring or baby finger of the right hand to intercept dangerous rays of light that could lead to poisoning when eating and other misfortunes that could occur during the meal. It has been ever present in the Mediterranean. See manos, comer con. [Alonso Luengo. 1994:44; Benavides-Barajas.
